waking up in the midday sun
what's to live for?
you could see what i'd done
staring at emotion in the light of day
i was running

Haha today was fun!

Emily and I were crapping away in our little corner in class. Like craning our necks to see who was teaching in 3H (which we have a relatively unobstructed view of, since we're sitting so near the door) and humming campfire songs randomly while we were supposed to be balancing chem equations (OMG I feel super guilty about the worksheet, how many teachers would allow their class to hand up a worksheet assigned one week earlier AFTER the hols?)

And during SS/Geog Emily tapped my shoulder and pointed to the floor, and there was this injured fly/bee/flying insect who couldn't fly and was crawling really slowly to 3S's door in a bid for freedom. And we were stoning and watching it crawl AND THEN AND THEN MDM TAN NEARLY STEPPED ON IT!!!! Really she JUST narrowly missed it, it was right between the heel of her shoe and the flat part of it! And I nearly screamed OHMYGAWD but checked myself just in time hahahahahahaha. Deborah saw it too and the three of us were cracking up silently.

And a BIRD flew into 3S during Bio/free period today. Really it swooped in for like 3 seconds and then flew out again! And this time I did scream OHMYGAWD! and startled the HK buddy sitting in front of me ahahaha.

Sat with Sihui/Nicolette/Zixin/Shiri/3N people during Bio today. We were sitting at the back of class and talking about stuff like how collarbones and jawlines are sexy and reading magazines and Zixin was braiding everyone's hair. Doesn't seem very interesting, but it was nice :) You know acting like a typical teenage girl, haven't had the chance to do that in a while, what with having to roll up my sleeves and get dirty for OAC, and being busy busy busy.

You know I think I've always had the best table partners. MINRU THE CHEE was the original table partner (and the first friend I made in Cedar, awwwwwh aren't you honoured?) and then ermmm Zixuan, I think? And Fabriana, and Thanita, and Vanessa (EVEN THOUGH SHE ALWAYS DISTRACTED ME WITH HER CONSTANT SPAZZING ABOUT KPOP)

Emily is an awesome table partner yo :D In fact, one of the best, since Chee Minmin. I found someone else who can spaz about MCR with me, FINALLY :) And haha how we always end up talking about totally mundane stuff that becomes funny because of the way it's told.

Hmm I just realized we probably leave Farahin out a lot. Guilt trip. And then there won't be a chance to include her in our between-class conversations because we'll be changing seating arrangement next term D:

Note to self: talk to quiet people more often. I've often been pleasantly surprised at how nice and friendly they can be :)

Okay well let's see I promised a lengthy blog post about OAC right? Here I go:

Day 1 highlights

-Lightning alert BOOOOOOO. And as a result only about four people from 3M got to do the zipline. It's supposed to be the most fun ):

-So we did the rockwall, lanes 7 and 8. I applaud the HK buddy with 3M :) Beacause you know there was this part of the rockwall that was jutting out quite a lot. And obviously it's hard to pull yourself up when your body is diagonal. But she kept trying and trying, even though she slipped off more than once. I think she must have clung on up there, trying to pull herself up for at least 10 minutes. Her arms must have been dying, but she didn't let go. Her belayer (Leader Shannon, I think?) asked her if she wanted to come down, but she said no.

And most of us, I think, if we slipped off, would have given up right away. I know I would've been reduced to a crying, screaming pile of jelly if I'd lost grip on the wall. Granted that's because I'm terrified of heights. But really, how many people would have the determination to keep at it?

It puts things into persepective, doesn't it. I have a feeling this will stick in my head for a loooong time. Go Candy! (That's her name btw.)

-Low Elements. Fun, actually. The seesaw was effing funny :) Though I had to leave halfway for Maintenance duty.

-Sentry duty was weirdly nice, because it was raining and omg do you know how pretty the campsite looked at night, with the lights from the buildings (we could see the city lights from our campsite. Ironic much?) and the rain? Ok I think I'm a failed instructor, thinking of how pretty the campsite looked in the rain instead of looking out for intruders.

Day 2

Initiative games! Save the Baby and Puzzle Mess. Was completed quite quickly. 3M is a really smart class (never underestimate the brainpower of the triple science kias.) They figured out Save the Baby in like five minutes.

Wilderness. Was screwed up right from the beginning because another class was there playing the game and so we had to wait and play Jacob's Ladder with 3I. And welllll 3M wasn't very enthu about playing the game. Granted that was because Pearlyn and I only found out how to play the game last night and had to keep referring to the proposal. I feel sorry about that :(

Oh well. Stuff got better once we got back to camp, 'cause we did High E! Broken Bridge and Cross Wire. Criss Cross. Eh the higher one. Ah Meng was damn funny I swear :) Screaming there for like 20 minutes without moving. Haha I'm one to talk, if I'd gone up there I'd probably have passed out.

I'm pretty proud of myself for completing the tyres thing during High E refreshers. Even if I did embarass myself by crying and hyperventilating up there. YES I AM A WIMP AND AM NOT ASHAMED TO ADMIT IT!

-Maintenance duty, ran back and forth getting and giving identities for various things (dept identity, class identity, etc.) and then...

-CAMPFIRE!!!!!!!!!!!

-DEAREST ALL.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.

AS LONG AS YOU GO HOME AND THINK ABOURIT,

YOU WILL SURELY UNDERSTAND.

5. 4. 3. 2. 1!

WHEN I DO TRIGO,

I THINK OF PEDO

I SEE MR ENG,

HE'S STARING AT ME

NOW I'M STARING AT HIM

MY EYES ARE BURNING

AND THEN HE SAYS,

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"

And we go BOOM sexy elves!

3! SEXY ELVES! WILL! KILL! YOU!

Why we no win best cheer :( Haha but 3O's cheer was super cute!

-Instructors' item was awesome yo!

"sentry duty every night making sure they sleep, had their eyes wide open

WHY WERE THEY OPEN?!"

"Skip a beat when we see them on the high E

In the park at the playground

We were busy doing outdoor cooking

We had them going crazy

'Cause we were so amazing

And now are hearts are breaking

'Cause OAC is ending :( "

"F is for friends who do stuff together

U is for you and me!

N is for anywhere, anytime at all!

Down at the O A C!"

"You can count on me like 1 2 3

I'll be there

'Cause I know when I need to

I can count on you like 4 3 2

'Cause that's what friends are supposed to do, oh yeah :) "

-Leaders' item was emotional. I swear I couldn't even look at Nurul, she was crying so badly.

-Ending was a bit anticlimax, but OAC Campfire 2011 was PHENOMENAL :) Ignite the light, together we'll shine!

-Debrief by Miss Poon was a lot more...peaceful than Day 1's? I nearly fell asleep, the aircon in the seminar room was so niiiiiiice.

Day 3

Big Sweep! Mostly gave out logistics, walked around making sure things were in order, counted logistics, put them back in the bus 'cause I was in Advance Party.

Then announced which class won what (3M WON BEST TEAMWORK YO!) and had lunch! My sexy voice was gone by this time. It was so annoying haha! People immediately interrupted me and said "ANDREA DON'T TALK!" the second I opened my mouth. Thanks for the get well wishes and suggestions on what to drink, guys :)

Dept debrief, which MTNC mostly spent talking and telling lame jokes. I LOVE YOU COOL KIDS! Played with bubbles with other depts, took lots of jump shots, repeated Instructors' item, and started crying like shit when the Leaders did their song again.

I try to keep it simple

cause I hate goodbyes

and I try to keep it simple

by telling myself that

I, I will remember you

and all of the things

that we've gone through

There is so much I can say

but words get in the way

So when we're not together

I will remember you

I will remember you.

I will remember you, Leaders 2011.

Emotional banjas, crying, hugging.

And then:

"Leaders, who's going out to eat?" -people raise hands

'Instructors, do you want to join us?"

"INSTRUCTORS, WHO'S GOING HOME TO SLEEP?"

-raise hands-

Hahahahahaha.

I love you guys. So much. And wow it doesn't seem so long ago that I was crying for entirely different reasons on the last day of Coals. And here I am now. Charlie instructors, we've come a long way :)

To be honest, I wasn't sure if I wanted to become an instructor after Coals. But then I read our instructors' (now leaders) letters and I made the decision right then to keep at it.

And I've never regretted that decision. Because the people I met, the fun I had, the laughter, priceless moments, they were entirely worth all the sadness and stress. I really widened my circle of friends through the OAB (L)

And I think after typing all of this out and replaying all the moments in my head, I'm gonna sleep with a huge smile on my face :))))))))))))))
